The Executive Director of the Fund for Financial Inclusion (FPM) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced on Monday that the third edition of the Access to Finance Forum will be held in Kinshasa on June 22nd.

This forum will bring together industry players, entrepreneurs and banks in order to provide a forum to exchange ideas on how to improve access to finance for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Jean-Claude Thetika told Le Potentiel newspaper that the FPM's mission is to widen access to credit: "We are working with banks to increase lending to SMEs".

The meeting will focus on several topics, including the importance of financial education for entrepreneurs, the management of the relationship with banks and the protection of clients and institutions' rights.

Jean-Claude Thetika believes that this forum should allow entrepreneurs to meet microfinance institutions in a different atmosphere, in a bid to break down the barriers that exist between the two parties.

According to figures from the World Bank, SMEs account for 20 percent of the total GDP of sub-Saharan Africa. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, they represent more than 60 percent of household income.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801599153-ADNFCR
