The customer will use his mobile phone as a payment medium

Mouatassim Boudiaf, Minister Delegate for the Digital Economy and Modernization of Financial Systems, announced that mobile payment will be launched in Algeria in 2018.

Mobile payment will expand the range of digital media available in the country, he said.

E-payment (CIB) for major billers (water and energy bills), mobile and fixed telephones, insurance, air transport and certain administrations (taxes, treasury and customs) was launched in early October. Mr. Boudiaf revealed that to date, 5,000 transactions have been registered thanks to this new service, which already has 930,000 subscribers.

The minister also said that "the payment by mobile phone dictates us first to raise the number of users of the e-payment system to be able to commit new investments"

Mobile payment will lead to the financial inclusion of the majority of the Algerian population, especially the low-income one. The introduction of finance in the mobile telephony sector will develop the e-commerce market.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801830509-ADNFCR
