A Study on Promoting Women’s Participation in Saccos

This report presents the outcomes of the study commissioned by the GTZ FSD Programme in Uganda to identify barriers to women’s participation and influence in Saving and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) and how these can be mitigated. Specifically, the objectives of the study are to: 1) Identify possible reasons for gender imbalance at the membership, board and management levels; 2) Identify possible reasons for low influence of women on SACCO boards; 3) Identify possible solutions to address gender imbalances and women’s influence in SACCO; and 4) recommend the GTZ FSD Programme possible areas of intervention for its gender strategy.
