Stock Market Development in Sub-Saharan Africa: Critical Issues and Challenges

This paper examines the economic importance of stock markets in Africa and discusses policy options for promoting the development of the stock market in the region. It analyzes the main challenges faced by African stock markets and describes the principal factors determining stock market development in the region. It concludes that stock markets have been particularly instrumental in financing the growth of large corporations in several African countries.
