The pandemic of Covid-19 has brought its share of uncertainties worldwide, including in Africa. The financial sector, among other sectors, was particularly affected by the decline in economic activity, increasing the challenges for the fight against poverty and inequality.
Nevertheless, this difficult time appears to be a time for opportunity, innovation and strong actions. Indeed, to cope with the impact of Covid-19, many African policy makers and regulators have taken important measures to provide support to the financial sector and increase its resilience. From lowering interest to reimagining the operation of businesses with the acceleration of digitalization for instance, financial sector players have entered a new world with more inclusive thinking and innovation.
The MFW4A 2021 Covid report provides critical insights from financial sector leaders across Africa on Covid-19 and its impact on the African financial sector. The report also highlights lessons learned and potential steps forward in the fight for resilience through a compilation of industry experts’ articles and proceeding of the MFW4A 2020 Annual General Assembly.
