Challenges of Municipal Finance In Africa: With Special Reference to Gaborone City, Botswana

This report takes a look at what African countries have done in financing sustainable municipal development. It examines the main sources of municipal finance; then looks at the experience of sustainable services provision; financial management and innovative financial practices. The report then looks at the case study of Gaborone, Botswana, how it has fared in financing urban development and see what lessons other countries can learn from it. It concludes by putting forward suggestion on the way forward as far as municipal financing in the African continent in concerned.
