An association has been formed to bring together agencies dealing with mobile phone money transfers - the Mobile Money Transfer Agents Association of Zimbabwe (MMTAAZ).

Executives Econet EcoCash (3.5 million users), Telnet Telecash (launched in the past few weeks) and NetOne will now be able to network more easily and exchange ideas on challenges faced by the sector.

"As agents, we have decided to come together and discuss with these giant service providers that it is high time they realise that much of their success story is a picture we paint for them as their brand ambassadors and we would want to speak with one voice, hence the formation of MMTAAZ," said founding director Francis Chinjekure.

He added that 100 executives have joined already and that membership should eventually reach 1,000.

For a $2 monthly subscription fee, the association will lobby for equitable returns to ensure “a conducive atmosphere for money transfer services”.

The association will also negotiate with mobile money companies to ensure their decisions do not have a negative impact on executives' operations.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801693569-ADNFCR
