It will be possible to send money to MTN Ivory Coast's electronic wallets from abroad.

WorldRemit, an international money transfer, has partnered with mobile operator MTN to allow users to send money to MTN Ivory Coast's electronic wallets from abroad.

When received, the transferred funds can be used to make purchases or pay bills via mobile phone, according to a statement seen by Jeune Afrique.

Mobile banking services are growing exponentially in Ivory Coast and West Africa. MTN had also signed in July 2015 a partnership with Western Union to transfer funds to the West African nation and Visa announced the opening of an office in Abidjan, its first in French-speaking West Africa.

The US provider of electronic payment solutions intends to expand its footprint and develop mobile digital payments in the region.

"French-speaking Africa has great potential for growth. Our customers are involved in the growth of digital payments and that is why we decided to get physically closer to these customers," said Tarek Elhousseiney, the general manager for the French-speaking Africa region at Visa.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801819802-ADNFCR
