Ugandans get UBA mobile banking service

Jul 02, 2010

United Bank for Africa (UBA) has partnered with MTN Mobile Money to offer its customers in Uganda improved access to their finances.

The agreement means those who have UBA accounts will be able to use their mobile phone to complete various transactions, such as pay utility bills and other service providers, Uganda Online reports.

According to the news source, other banks in the country "should be in advanced stages of coming up with similar solutions", however those with accounts who require to withdraw cash from their accounts will still have to do so over the counter at a branch. UBA currently has five offices in Uganda, having entered the financial market in the country in 2008.

This is the latest mobile banking offering to become available to Ugandan citizens, after Bank of Africa launched DigiBanking last month. The Ugandan Observer reported this enables users to check their account details over the phone, cutting down on branch visits.
