Jan 20, 2016

The service has already been launched in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya.

Visa has partnered with United Bank of Africa (UBA) to launch a new banking solution in Africa that includes a prepaid card and a mobile app - dubbed SmartMoney.

"SmartMoney provides convenience to make purchases, perform online transactions and access to cash from ATMs. SmartMoney app users also have the ability to check card balances; track and budget spend, or send and receive funds between SmartMoney cardholders," said Visa in a statement.

Users can download the app from Google Play or Apple iOS Store and link it to their card, available at UBA offices.

"The SmartMoney prepaid card allows young people to enjoy all the features of a bank account and the minimal costs associated with the prepaid card are a massive plus," said UBA chief executive officer Kennedy Uzoka at a press conference.

The service has already been launched in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya and will be rolled out to other African markets in 2016.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801810429-ADNFCR
