Mobile operator Tigo has launched a nationwide training programme to support the development of small and medium businesses in Tanzania.

Tigo's General Manager Diego Gutierrez said during the launch that this programme brought together more than 300 entrepreneurs and SME reps, which have been able to benefit from mentoring workshops, training and nationwide talks on topics like marketing and management, finance and productivity.

"These sessions will reach businesses right across the country. Tigo is very excited about taking a different approach in supporting the socio-economic development of the nation", he added, quoted by Tanzania Daily News.

SME Specialist Ridhwani Kassim addressed the audience on the need for the SMEs to secure financial support. He warned SME owners to make sure that the business is well established and in a positive growing trend before seeking financial support. He also added that they will need to be able to show a financial record to support their credit application.

SMEs contribute to around 30 percent of the country's GDP and are the second biggest employer after agriculture, according to the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC).ADNFCR-2976-ID-801481788-ADNFCR
