The Tanzanian government has commended Covenant Bank for its commitment to support dairy farmers in the country.

The government has commended Covenant Bank for its commitment to support dairy farmers in the country.

During a visit of representatives from Covenant Bank to his office, the minister for Livestock and Fisheries Development, Dr. Titus Kamani, declared "On behalf of the government, I am thankful by the way Covenant Bank has gone out of its way to offer financial support to dairy farmers. This is the first form of financial support that farmers are receiving in the country. I am sure that small scale farmers, most of whom could not access loans, are now benefiting".

The minister noted that 40 per cent of Tanzanians are pastoralists and need agricultural loans to invest and improve their living standards. He also highlighted the need for expanding support to small scale entrepreneurs in other regions of the country. At present, Covenant Bank has focused on Dar es Salaam.

Covenant Bank’s Managing Director, Ms. Sabetha Mwambenja, thanked the government for its support of the project and promised
the bank “shall continue to come up with more projects that are aimed at supporting the community to develop economically".
