Senegal : Government to help housing bank "play its role"

The Senegalese government has announced its intention to contribute to strengthening the capital of the Banque de l'Habitat du Senegal (Senegal's Housing Bank - BHS ) to improve access to property in the country and promote the national construction companies, as well as job creation.

asked the government to help the bank "play its role", calling for the "strengthening" of its financial resources through " appropriate " lines of credit.

"The government must work to establish the Housing Bank of Senegal in its trade, and to further support public officials, workers in the private sector and the Senegalese diaspora in their projects to access property," said the Council of Ministers in a statement published by APS news agency.

Macky Sall has also asked the government to prepare
a presidential council on housing finance
in March 2014.

This announcement comes just days after housing charity Shelter Afrique revealed plans to borrow Cfaf10 billion (€15.2 million) on the sub-regional financial markets to finance housing projects in Senegal Togo and Ivory Coast.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801683773-ADNFCR
