Senegal : Bicis and Sonatel launch new mobile banking service

The International Bank for Trade and Industry of Senegal (Bicis) and Sonatel - through its brand name Orange Money - has launched a new mobile banking service in Senegal .

launched a new mobile banking service in Senegal.

Mobibank gives users direct access to Bicis' financial services through their Orange Money account.

Customers can directly supply their mobile bank account from their Bicis account - and vice versa - but also can save by transferring money into their savings account in real time.

The Director General of BICIS, Pierre Beregovoy, said in a statement that the initiative is part of the bank's efforts to strengthen financial inclusion in Senegal.

Orange Money currently has over 10 million customers in 13 countries in Africa and the Middle East.

The launch comes a day after the decision from the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) to make twenty basic banking services free in the WAEMU zone came into force.
