Finance industry bodies in Africa have set up a new body to boost the region's insurance sector.

Finance industry bodies in Africa have set up a new body to boost the region's insurance sector.

According to Albert Nduna, head of Zimre, it is becoming widely accepted that Africa is "the continent of the future", the Zimbabwe Independent reports.

This, he said, means the continent needs "strong insurance institutions to facilitate its accelerated economic development".

As a result, members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have joined forces to create the SADC Insurance Forum.

It is hoped this will enable insurance providers in the region to boast the same strength as those in other parts of the world.

Mr Ndunah has been named as the interim chairman of the group and he believes this will help to foster the growth of a vibrant insurance sector in this part of Africa.

He added that trade between different regions should increase as a result, while it may also encourage more business networking.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801403440-ADNFCR
