Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) has just established itself in Kenya to extend its presence in the East African region.

Situating itself in the capital of Nairobi, the financial institution wishes to concentrate on the large and medium-sized enterprises market, an area it believes to have big potential, reports Reuters Africa.

RMB will focus on particular areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, fuel and gas. It appears that the bank already possesses some investment agreements with regional companies, such as the petroleum provider Kenolkobil.

In an interview with Reuters Africa, Head of Africa Investment Banking for RMB Michael Larbie explained that the bank wanted to provide to its future customers with a real diversity of services such as structured and senior funding, as well as trading solutions.

The firm is a division of FirstRand, one of the main financial institutions in South Africa. Founded in 1977 as a structured-finance house, it has today become one of the country's leading investment banks.
