First Bank of Nigeria is making it easier for customers to access their money by increasing its network of ATM terminals and distributing bank cards to account holders.

Managing Director of the financial institution Bisi Onasanya was quoted by the Champion as saying the firm is "deploying a large number" of ATM cards so there is "no reason" why customers will not be able to withdraw funds without having to visit a branch.

Individuals are now given bank cards when they set up a new account and Mr Onasanya added First Bank is also expanding its mobile and internet banking capabilities ahead of the introduction of Operation Cashless Lagos on January 1st 2012.

The scheme is being introduced in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria's economic policy and will be trialled in the state for six months.

First Bank recently picked up the title of innovative bank in Africa at the African Awards, which were held in Washington DC in the US alongside the 2011 International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings.ADNFCR-2976-ID-800756204-ADNFCR
