Namibia associations launch fraud campaign

Dec 20, 2010

Namibian banking associations have collaborated to launch a new campaign aimed at educating the public about the risk of fraud.

The Bank of Namibia, Payment Association of Namibia, Bankers Association of Namibia (BAN) and the nation's four commercial banks have joined together for the initiative, the Namibia Economist reports. They are running radio and television messages and advertisements in newspapers to highlight the precautionary steps customers should take when at ATMs.

Some of the promotional material will be available in the branches of participating banks and the bodies have also produced a range of cartoons, which outline various scenarios and highlight how customers can avoid falling victim to scams. BAN warned criminals use a number of methods in order to obtain personal details and the initiative comes after Standard Bank Namibia offered tips for its clients, urging them not to use a cash machine showing signs that it has been tampered with.
