MTN and Ecobank form partnership to offer mobile banking solution across 12 African countries

Telecom operator MTN and banking group Ecobank announced on March 17th the launch of a common mobile banking offer across 12 African countries.

MTN Mobile Money users can now withdraw money
from Ecobank's ATMs
and transfer money between their Mobile Money and Ecobank accounts.

This service will be available in Benin, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Liberia, Congo Brazzaville, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda and Zambia.

Patrick Akinwuntan, Ecobank’s Group Executive Director for Domestic Banking, said in a statement: "This roll-out further demonstrates our commitment to make branchless banking a reality by activating multiple service channels in every country in which we operate."

"MTN is particularly excited by this agreement as it fits in perfectly with our on-going efforts to improve access to financial services for our customers and broader communities in the countries where we operate," added Pieter Verkade, MTN Group Chief Commercial Officer.
