Lack of information limits business opportunities for women

Nov 10, 2010

Lack of skills and information is limiting women from venturing into businesses in Uganda, says Uganda Investment Authority director, Dr. Maggie Kigozi.

She says that UIA has so far registered only 400 women owned businesses out of the 5000 licensed projects in Uganda. She also adds that these 400 women projects contribute 40% to the country’s GDP.

Kigozi was speaking at the start of the month of women entrepreneurs which will see more women trained to acquire skills that can help them be more creative and competitive in the regional market.

As part of the activities of this month, women groups will conduct trainings for business women, exhibitions by successful women entrepreneurs among others. This year’s celebration will run under the theme strengthening Entrepreneurship skills and governance of women entrepreneurs associations. Prossy Nandudu
