Kwanza Norte farmers get Angolan agriculture finance
Over 54 million kwanzas has been given to approximately 700 farmers in the Kwanza Norte province of Angola in order to assist them with food production. The financing was distributed to members of agriculture cooperatives and associations in Kiculungo, Bolongongo and Golungo-Alto, as part of the Agriculture Campaign Credit Programme, the Angop news agency reports.
Chairperson of the Angolan National Farmers Union Joao Miguel told the press that the initiative is making good progress with cutting hunger and poverty across the country.
Funding has been provided by the Commerce and Industry Bank and the Angolan Saving and Credit Bank and this is the first time farmers in the three districts have received funding to boost their operations.
Manager of one Angolan farming cooperative Antonio Lino was recently quoted by the news source as saying the decision to give money to agriculture businesses is resulting in "a huge opportunity for food production and the creation of opportunities for rural families".
