Kenya: UAP Insurance Launches Mobile APP
UAP Insurance has launched a mobile app to sell medical insurance to customers in Kenya. This follows the success of such a distribution channel for micro finance, launched four years ago.
The mobile application,
AfyaImar, is accessible on Android platforms or on the web for PC users.
UAP's insurance managing director explained that the company was keen to expand its mobile business, after the success of its
micro insurance product for small scale crop and livestock farmers, also available digitally.
This launch will be accompanied with a “do-it-yourself” insurance starter pack and an information centre.
The starter pack is an innovative product: individuals can buy a scratch card at a retailer, which give them a unique access number. Accessing cover is then as simple as sending an SMS with this access number.
But as the web is increasingly accessed through mobile devices, it is important to make these latest services available through mobile applications for smartphones and tablets.
Medical and accident cover can be purchased with various limits, with a Ksh 100,000 (1100 US dollars) cover available for as little as Ksh 200 (little more than two dollars) for one month.
A team of professionals is ready to answer any insurance questions through the information centre, accessible via
phone, email or social media platforms.
