IAG launches Insurance Awareness Week

Feb 27, 2012

The Insurance Association of Gambia is undertaking a series of events to promote understanding of the sector among the general public.

It hopes to establish a more trusting relationship between consumers and insurance firms, as well as educate people about different policies and improve the market's public image.

The schedule of events includes a sponsored walk starting at the Kairaba Avenue branch of the International Insurance Company and the launch of a new IAG website.

Executive Secretary of the IAG Henry Jawo said the purpose of Insurance Awareness Week is also to improve public relations, which will create greater levels of interest.

Uptake of microfinance in particular could benefit the development of many African nations, as it is aimed at poorer groups and provides them with protection when they are often unable to access mainstream commercial schemes.

This helps to prevent people in Africa from falling into the trap of poverty, as it provides funding should a family experience loss of income due to death or the inability to work.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801299612-ADNFCR
