FNB launches smartphone banking app
Customers of First National Bank (FNB) can now access their accounts through mobile devices, after the South African firm became the first in the country to launch an app for smartphones and tablet computers.Owners of BlackBerry, Apple and Android handsets can download the FNB Banking App and carry out online banking while they are away from a computer.
The software lets users complete transactions or view their account history as Chief Executive Officer of FNB Michael Jordaan said the company is "constantly looking at ways to improve on our innovations, staying one step ahead of our competitors and consistently adding value and choice for our customers".
Smartphone owners can check foreign currency exchange rates with the app, or use it to locate branches and ATMs while
the firm plans to add further features in the future.
FNB has a nationwide network of ATMs, which let account customers withdraw as much as R1,000 (€102) a day, as well as obtain printed mini statements, pay traffic fines and deposit cheques.
