Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Zambia are to benefit from the backing of Eco Bank.

The financial institution plans to share its experiences in other African nations, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi and Zimbabwe, in order to encourage Zambian SMEs to expand.

According to the Times of Zambia, Eco Bank will do this by throwing its weight behind government schemes designed to ensure SMEs play a greater role in driving economic growth.

Titus Kalenga, chairman of the board at the company, said the bank is committed to continuing to work with smaller ventures in the country to enable them to grow.

He added that Eco Bank currently provides its customers with "world class, convenient, reliable and accessible services".

Access will improve further in the near future when it increases its number of ATMs to 34 by the end of 2012 – up from the current amount of 16.
