BRVM enters the MSCI Frontier Markets Index
It was made possible by the BRVM's growth in capital and liquidity. The Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM) has joined the MSCI Frontier Markets Index, thus fulfilling one of the major objectives of its development plan.
The integration of the MSCI WAEMU Index into the MSCI Frontier Markets Index was made possible by the BRVM's growth in capital and liquidity over the last three years, said Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI).
"The BRVM welcomes its entry into the select club of the six African stock exchanges that are on the radar of investors seeking to invest their resources in markets with high profitability and high growth potential, and whose listed securities offer sufficient liquidity to attract them," said Kossi Edoh Amenounve, General Manager of the BRVM.
The other members of the "Frontier Markets" club on the continent are Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, Mauritius and Tunisia.
All have established financial markets but their market capitalization and liquidity remain too small to allow them to be categorized under
the emerging markets category.
