BPR launches campaign to promote mobile banking
A new campaign has been launched to encourage more Rwandan people to use mobile banking.Banque Populaire du Rwanda (BPR) is one of the oldest financial institutions in the country and it is urging its customers to make the change from traditional banking solutions, the New Times reports.
Some 300,000 users are being targeted by the initiative, which would enable them to make money transfers and transactions using their handsets, thus promoting financial inclusion.
Individuals can also buy electricity, pay postpaid phone bills, check their balance and order a cheque book using the mobile banking solution.
Discussing the campaign, Head of Marketing and Product Development at BPR Richard Ndahiro said: "We realised that there was a need for more people to be aware of our product and to achieve that we needed mass awareness campaign to make people understand these products."
He added that although up to 500 people a day register for the service in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, it needs greater promotion in smaller villages.
