Speaking to Angop, banking official Joaquina Sebastiao explained that currently, those living in the country have to carry large amounts of cash around with them whenever they make a transaction.

She noted carrying a bank card is a more a practical way of accessing money for most people.

Furthermore, the machines can be used in commercial exchanges as they can facilitate the sale and purchase of goods and services, Ms Sebastiao stated.

According to a study conducted by Deloitte Angola, the number of ATMs has increased significantly in the nation over the past few years.

There were 7,587 machines across Angola in 2009, compared with 2,660 in 2008, while the number of credit and debit cards has also gone up, rising by around four per cent in the timeframe.ADNFCR-2976-ID-801313135-ADNFCR
