Airtel Money launches life insurance scheme

The company is working with UniBank Ghana and Star Micro Insurance to offer the service, which it is hoped will boost its customer base, Microfinance Africa reports.
Director of Mobile Commerce at Airtel Ghana Kola Sonola said: "What we are doing at Airtel is to look at introducing products which are innovative and which our subscribers will find useful."
To qualify, people must maintain an average balance of GHC5 (€2) at the end of every month and can register for the service by texting a number, following which they will receive a confirmation message.
Mr Sonola added his company wants to form partnerships with other organisations to further enhance the service it provides to its clients.
Airtel first launched its mobile banking service in Ghana in December 2011, making it the first enterprise to do so in the country.
It enables people to transfer funds quickly and easily, as well as pay utility bills and other fees.
