He made this statement during a training session on structured trade finance for representatives of banks and financial institutions, as well as African business leaders, last week in Douala, Cameroon Tribune reports.

Mr. Ekra believes that this type of product will generate even more excitement because it allows for more return on investment, while guaranteeing the risk.

Organised by Afreximbank in cooperation with the Bank of Central African States and the Foundation for capacity building in Africa, the meeting aimed at familiarising African bankers with trade finance tools and techniques to tackle the challenges faced by lenders in Africa.

According to figures from Afreximbank, trade among African countries accounts for about 13 percent of Africa's total trade, the latter accounting for only three percent of global trade.
