The French Development Agency has granted a package of MRO 192 million (€4.7 million) to Mauritania to finance a support scheme for small companies.

An agreement was signed last Thursday (June 16th) for this project, which will be operated by the Chamber of Commerce in Mauritania (CCIAM), news agency APA reports.

The initiative's objective is to increase access to credit and other financial services for small enterprises.

These small local companies will benefit from a training programme to help them structure and professionalise their credit applications.

Individuals managing the project expect this will boost both the economy and new job creation.

The CCIAM's Director Mohamedou Ould Mohamed Mahmoud told Nouackchott news agency during the signing of the agreement that the AFD's gesture "will facilitate access to credit for small companies on a mid and long-term [basis] through the strengthening of their management capacities and the popularisation of their activities".
