The key objective of the event was to identify and prioritise policy, capacity building and other actions to support increased investment in domestic alternative / long term assets by the pension funds.
Participants discussed the Ghanaian pension funds industry landscape, opportunities and challenges of alternative investments, the regulatory framework and investment constraints, lessons learnt from other countries as well as collaboration with DFIs.
Going forward, participants agreed to establish a task force composed of pension funds, regulators, policy makers and industry experts to support and coordinate policy and regulatory initiatives to unlock domestic capital for long term investment. The Task Force is already consulting with the Securities and Exchanges Commission (SEC) on new regulations for private equity firms.
