The objective of this document is to identify factors behind the composition and distribution of recent private capital flows to sub-Saharan Africa, and to begin investigating their possible contribution to growth. Building on the observation that the distribution and composition of capital inflows varies substantially across SSA countries, the authors analyze the impact of key country characteristics in attracting different amounts and types of private capital.
