Regional Agriculture and Food Security Forum 2010: Building Sustainable Small-Scale Agriculture in Southern Africa

This report analyzes the outcomes of the Regional Agriculture and Food Security Forum held in Livingstone, Zambia in April 6-9, 2010. The forum was intended to accelerate private sector led agricultural development with government assistance in the Southern Africa Region, giving special attention to small-scale agriculture. Being outcome driven, its goals were to share knowledge and to help catalyze new initiatives. The results of the forum fall into two main categories: (1) synthesis of knowledge and (2) creation of new initiatives. Its objectives were oriented toward reaching four key objectives: Maximizing Efficiencies via Farmer and Production Support; Harmonizing and Developing Partnerships to Improve the Enabling Environment for Growth; Identifying Opportunities and Broadening Access to Finance and Investment and; and Maximizing Social and Environmental Impact via Inclusive Private Sector Strategies.
