National Payment Systems in Zambia: Annual Report for the year 2011

This report reviews the developments that took place in the Zambian National Payment Systems between January and December 2011. The report finds that the payment systems in Zambia took an upward trend in terms of volumes and values with a downward trend only experienced in the volume of cheques which had a marginal decline. Zambia continues to use cash as the main method of payment for individual payments. However, the use of electronic methods of payment increased especially in the use of the Automated Teller Machines, Point of Sale and the Direct Debit and Credit Clearing.
