The Impact of Microinsurance on Asset Accumulation and Human Capital Investments: Evidence from a Drought in Kenya

Mar 01, 2013 | S.A. Janzen, M.R. Carter | ILO, Microinsurance Innovation Facility

This paper examines if insurance can transfer risk in a way that would reduce the need for households to rely on costly coping strategies that will undermine their future productivity. Using the insurance payout induced by a drought in 2011, this paper analyses the immediate impacts of the payout on expected asset accumulation and human capital investments.
