Housing Microfinance in South Africa: Status, Challenges and Prospects

South Africa is host to a small yet vibrant group of microfinance institutions (MFIs) that provide housing‐specific microfinance (HMF) to a wider and deeper target market than ever before. The author argues that realizing the potential of HMF to contribute towards the housing challenges in South Africa will require the inputs of many actors on various levels.
