Dec 07, 2018 | The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) | EIU
The 2018 Global Microscope provides a unique insight into the leading practices that governments and regulators are adopting to channel the digital revolution of financial services into greater levels of financial inclusion. For the purposes of the Global Microscope, financial inclusion goes beyond the number of accounts opened at financial institutions. In line with the definition from the Center for Financial Inclusion at Accion (CFI), we understand financial inclusion to mean access to a full suite of quality financial services, ensuring that customers possess financial capability and ensuring that services are provided via a diverse and competitive marketplace. In order to achieve financial inclusion, new tools and technologies must be accessible and useful for customers and connect them with a broader set of services. The 2018 Global Microscope sets a model for an enabling environment for financial inclusion across five domains: 1. Government and Policy Support - 2. Stability and Integrity - 3. Products and Outlets - 4. Consumer Protection - 5. Infrastructure
