Enabling Mobile Money Transfer: The Central Bank of Kenya’s Treatment of M-Pesa

The following case study discusses the period of development of the M-Pesa mobile payment from concept inception in 2005 to December 2008. The study looks at the Central Bank of Kenya’s (CBK) process of assessing the risk of M-Pesa and determining how it fits in the existing regulatory framework.
