This paper examines the efficiency of commercial banks in Namibia by using operating ratios and the econometric cost frontier approach. While the ratio analysis focuses essentially on profitability measures, the estimation of a translog cost function enabled the authors to measure both scale and scope economies. Among others, the study established that profit ratios are high in the Namibian commercial banking industry.
