Simbank 2011 opens its doors in Ivory Coast
A conference on electronic money and banking services (SimBank 2011) will be held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from the 19th to the 22nd of July 2011This event "is an exchange and sharing platform for the sector. It promotes exchanges between banks and the different sectors of the electronic money", Jacob Amematekpo, President of the Association for Banks and Financial Institutions of Ivory Coast, told Xinhua news agency.
The theme of this event is Electronic money as a way to boost access to banking services.
Access to banking services inside the Economic Community of West African States (UEMOA) is currently quite low - between three and eight per cent - and the development of electronic money appears to be one of the most efficient solutions to reverse this trend.
Several initiatives have already been introduced
operated by the GIM-UEMOA, a body that governs interbank electronic money within the UEMOA
which recently introduced an interbank electronic money system, La Tribune de l’Economie reports.
The GIM-UEMOA debit card, universal in the sub-region, allows banks to offer quality and proximity services at lower costs.
