Thanks to this initiative, Nigerians will be able to get a bank account in the easiest possible way, without going to one of its branches, says the bank.
In Nigeria, which is part of the West African Economic and Monetary Union where the access to finance rate averages around six per cent, this type of program is particularly important.
Available from computers and mobile phones, Facebook is part of a wider trend to improve access to banking through better services on smartphones.
Furthermore, bankers consider that customers nowadays need to have financial services at their disposal 24/7, an advantage online apps allow.
GTBanks already totals 1.3 million Facebook fans, more than any other Nigerian company according to the bank’s own statistics.
In recognition of its initiatives over the past 12 months, GTBank is leading the African Business’ Annual Ranking for the banking sector.
