The Microinsurance Network, together with Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A) are pleased to announce the start of the Expert Forum series on microinsurance in Africa. The three-part series will chiefly address the outcomes from the Landscape of Microinsurance in Africa 2015 study, published by the Microinsurance Network and Munich Re Foundation, in cooperation with MFW4A and GIZ on behalf of BMZ,
which will be released in the first quarter of this year. Three interactive online
modules will
run for an hour each and will focus on "Insights into the landscape and products", "The business case for microinsurance" and "Distribution and innovation". In the first module, participants will delve into the key data from the regional study and compare the evolution of the sector - examining its growth, provider perspectives and premiums, since the previous study in 2011. The second module will dig into data on premiums, claims, commissions and administrative expenses, which will help examine the business case for microinsurance in Africa. Participants will be able to engage into detailed discussions on benchmarking performance and target indicators, in order to paint an accurate picture of profitability and standards in the region. The final module will encompass emerging trends on the distribution of microinsurance in Africa, with the participants exploring successful distribution channels and key players in Africa, including an in-depth look at mobile network operators (MNOs).
