Microinsurance workshop to take place in Zimbabwe

May 25, 2011

A workshop is being held in Zimbabwe to discuss how microinsurance can be developed in Africa.

The event will take place tomorrow (May 26th) at Victoria Falls, the Daily Independent reports.

Organised by the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) and the Access to Insurance Initiative, it aims to assess the regulatory and supervisory challenges currently facing the microfinance sector.

According to AIO Secretary-General Prisca Soares, it will then look at objectives and consider how a policy framework can be established for the market.

The workshop follows the 38th conference and annual general assembly of the AIO, which acts as an umbrella body for insurance companies on the continent.

It hopes to encourage interaction between the various African nations and establish a quality insurance market.

The Access to Insurance Initiative, meanwhile, was created with the purpose of bringing about regulatory changes that will encourage the use of voluntary insurance products by those on low incomes.
