Inaugural Meeting of the “WAEMU Formal Network of SME Support Agencies” held in Cotonou, Benin

The Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A) Partnership Secretariat, in collaboration with the National Agency for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises of Benin (ANPME) organised the inaugural meeting of the "WAEMU Formal Network of Agencies" on October 30-31 in Cotonou, Benin.

The Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A) Partnership Secretariat, in collaboration with the National Agency for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises of Benin (ANPME) organised the inaugural meeting of the "WAEMU Formal Network of Agencies" on October 30-31 in Cotonou, Benin. H.E. Ms. Naomie Azaria Honhoui, Minister in charge of Trade and Commerce of the Republic of Benin, opened the meeting, which was attended by numerous institutions from Benin, representatives of the banking sector, the WAEMU Commission, as well as development partners including the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The main objective of the meeting was to consolidate the foundations of the Network, which aims to promote the exchange of information and the sharing of SME management tools, as well as facilitate dialogue with national authorities and regional bodies, the financial sector and development partners, in order to scale up access to finance for SMEs. Members (<media 5062>see MFW4A Information Brief on WAEMU Formal Network of SME Support Agencies</media>) voted on the charter and the work plan of 2014-2015 and ruled on the governance structure of the network. In the coming year, the network will be chaired by ANPME and administered by the Senegalese Agency for the Development and Support of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (ADEPME). This meeting follows the regional consultation for the establishment of a working group of SME support structures held in March 2012, in Dakar Senegal, which led to the adoption of the "Dakar Statement".
