Event Reports - MFW4A/AfDB Financial Sector Dialogues

Jul 29, 2019 | MFW4A

The Making Finance Work for Africa Secretariat (MFW4A) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) organized during the second half of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019 a series of 4 regional Financial Sector Dialogues. This series of regional dialogues aims to provide the ideal opportunity for domestic financial institutions and regional/international Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) to build up better understanding of their needs, their strengths and potential roles, as well as structural changes within the financial ecosystem and therefore adjust their investment strategies in the region.

The objective of these high-level meetings is to:

  • Take stock of the state of ongoing reforms in the continent's financial sectors;
  • Identify priority areas and actions, including innovative financial instruments, where Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) can reinforce their contribution to financing the real economy in Africa;
  • Adopt a common roadmap for new initiatives in favor of financial sector development; and
  • Promote the inclusion of these initiatives in the strategies of the AfDB, domestic financial institutions, as well as regional and international development institutions.

The diagnosis and main recommendations arising from this series of dialogues have been summarized in specific reports available below:

- West Africa / ECOWAS

- Eastern and Southern Africa

- Central Africa
