Les fermiers tanzaniens sont préoccupés par leur financement (en anglais)
Farmers in the Morogoro region of Tanzania have raised concerns over their ability to borrow funds.According to Tanzanian newspaper the Daily News, many have complained about the tough lending conditions that have made it difficult to acquire finance. Cyprian Kifyoga of the Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies was quoted by the news source as saying the current market conditions are "not friendly" to farmers, who are having to sell their produce cheaply.
"This has put us in a bad situation, especially in paying back the bank loans," he remarked, adding one of the stipulations for securing money that has been imposed by financial institutions - that farmers must have a title deed - cannot be met by many. The agricultural sector in the country is also facing a different problem following the discovery of a counterfeit seed, pesticide and fertiliser factory in Arusha. In an editorial piece, the newspaper noted acquiring raw material from such sources is "detrimental to production".
