Trade Finance Workshop with the Tanzania Bankers Association
Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A) and the Tanzania Bankers Association (TBA) co-hosted a workshop aimed at enhancing understanding of global trends in trade finance and exploring Tanzania's trade finance market. The workshop was designed for professionals from banks, non-bank financial institutions, trade regulatory bodies and export/import trade associations in Tanzania.
African trade reached over USD 1.3 trillion in 2023, yet it represents only 2.8% of global trade volume. Intra-African trade, estimated at USD 187 billion, accounts for just 14.2% of the continent's trade, though it is expected to grow significantly with the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
This workshop offered a platform to:
- Share insights on Africa’s trade finance markets, featuring trade finance instruments, technology-driven solutions, and initiatives from partner organizations aimed at facilitating trade finance in Africa.
- Identify business opportunities and promote partnerships to support local businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in meeting their trade finance needs for imports and exports.
- Pinpoint capacity gaps and obstacles to implementing policy priorities that can boost trade finance and intra-African trade, thereby contributing to the success of the AfCFTA agenda.
