Reinforcing Food Systems to Meet Urban Demand

This event is aimed at raising awareness of the changing demographics impacting global demand and supply of food, and highlight how food systems are transforming, linking rural to urban markets, and responding to changing food preferences, especially in urban areas of developing countries. It will highlight the multiple ways in which the private sector, governments, donors and development practitioners are working to improve food security, adjust systems and adapt finance for urban agriculture and sustainable energies. The conference's objectives are to
showcase competitively selected best practices through three tracks: Scaling technology and innovation for agriculture; Improving sustainability and food security of urban markets; and Facilitating links from rural to urban parts of a supply chain. The Agriculture Value Chain Finance Training, will take place on March 29-30, and will include a focus on urban food security including how finance can help strengthen rural to urban food value chains. In this participatory training, participants will also learn basic value chain concepts and how to assess risks and identify strategic opportunities to strengthen value chains.
