An Opportunity or a Mirage?

Afreximbank will hold its maiden edition of its Trade and Development Seminar Series, with the objective of stimulating the debate and generation of ideas on how to enlarge opportunities for an increased and more diversified African trade, especially intra-African and Africa-South trade. This session aims to highlight the latest developments on AGOA, undertake a brief assessment of the impact of AGOA on African trade, especially on expanding trade and diversifying exports away from commodities. It will highlight some of the success stories as well as factors behind any dashed expectations. The session will also discuss the constraints facing AGOA as well as steps being taken to address these constraints through governments and private sector operators. Further, the session will provide a platform to reflect on the future of AGOA and the future of US-Africa trade relations, with emphasis on the role that development finance institutions could play in ongoing efforts to accelerate the process of diversification of Africa's exports.
